ABOUT NECTON

Born from creative entrepreneurship and a passion for the sea, growing into two complementary areas of business: Microalgae and Traditional Sea Salt.

Necton was founded in 1997 as Companhia Portuguesa de Culturas Marinhas S.A., Necton started from a microalgae production project developed at the Superior School of Biotechnology of the Catholic University of Portugal. Over the years, we have expanded our expertise in marine biotechnology, developing technologies for the industrial-scale production of microalgae, while also venturing into the production and sale of traditional sea salt.

Today, Necton operates through two autonomous business units: the Microalgae Business Unit and the Traditional Sea Salt Business Unit, each dedicated to excellence and innovation in its field.

 

Our mission is to bring to market innovative products and services grounded in scientific and technological marine knowledge. We are committed to the integrated and sustainable development of salt marshes, harnessing the potential of microalgae, traditional sea salt, and other natural resources from these environments.

Our vision is to be a European reference in our industries while serving as a regional hub for sustainable economic development, consistently delivering products and services of the highest quality that meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.

Sea salt business unit

For thousands of years, mankind has been gathering salt from the sea or finding it on land. For most of our existence, salt was a scarce, rare, and difficult product to transport. Salt was literally a hidden treasure in the sea!

The resulting salt was unique in its mineral and crystalline appearance.

It was a complete, natural food, closely associated with a place and a way of life.
So, once again, Necton applies a natural, environmentally friendly and socio-economically invigorating way and concept to its production. We bring food to your kitchen as nature gives it to us.Under the maxim “not all salt is the same”, Necton presents itself today as a unique company in the market.

The production of traditional sea salt and Flor de Sal follows a unique methodology that combines tradition with modern management processes, innovation and quality to obtain excellent products. Thus, the salt harvest is carried out in a traditional and ancient way. In this way, the salt reaches all consumers, natural, healthy and as nature gives it to us.
In this way, the efforts of Necton SA are rewarded by several awards that distinguish the company in terms of excellence of its product at national and international level.

The Phytobloom brand represents both literally and figuratively an explosion of phytoplankton.
The Phytobloom’s product line consists of a range of microalgae concentrates (phytoplankton) marketed to aquaculture hatcheries for marine and shellfish, aquariums and research centers.

We have a corporate vision focused on excellence and we will spare no effort to achieve this goal and positioning. We want to be a European reference in our areas of activity and, at the same time, a regional center for economic development. We strive to offer the best products and services in all the business areas in which we operate.
